PARNELL Noel

Noel was born in 1927, one of four children (Myrtle, Noel, Alfred (dec.) and Margaret), born at Gnowangerup to the late Richard Slee and Florence Parnell, who had settled on a Soldier Settlement farm on the Broomehill Road.
The property was known as 'Floradale".
Noel attended school at East Broomehill and on leaving school, worked on the farm with his father.
He married Muriel Archer of Mount Barker in 1954 and together they raised three children, Tim, Kerry and Ross.
Noel's parents then retired into town and Noel carried on managing the farm.
Noel was a quiet achiever and the only sport he played was a small amount of Badminton.
However his great love was his children, great-grandchildren and football.
Junior football was his big interest and he was connected with this for approximately 23 years. For this he was awarded he club's highest honour of Life Membership in 1981.
Noel worked very hard in the early days of junior football and was proud of the fact that along with others, was the instigator of running five junior teams in the Katanning Association.
Namely U/ 10s, U/12s, U/ 14s and a spare U/ 10s social team.

NOEL PARNELL

Large amounts of money had to be raised to produce five sets of jumpers, new footballs, trophies and all the running costs of a very progressive Club.
To meet this end, a cropping programme was undertaken on the town common, plus other fund raising events.
Noel was one of the tireless workers who were totally committed to raising these funds.
He also volunteered to do other major tasks to keep the Club running. He was justly rewarded with a Life Membership to the Junior Club in 1981.
Sadly Noel passed away suddenly at home on May 25, 1994.
Noel followed football right up to his death, having a grandson, and son participating in the game.
He will be sadly missed and it was most fitting when the Gnowangerup and Nyabing Football Clubs held three minute's silence before the match held the following Saturday
